This industry-recognised (non-accredited) CPD package is purpose-built for Queensland metalliferous operations (underground and surface) and aligns with Board of Examiners (BOE) CPD expectations.

• Emergency management: Emergency response coordinators, Control Room Operators and IMT members building capability in underground metalliferous emergency preparedness and response systems.
• WHS & compliance teams: Health & Safety Managers/Advisors, WHS Coordinators and Training/Compliance Coordinators needing depth in regulatory and organisational compliance, WHS management system requirements, confined space supervision and safety investigations.
• Operations, maintenance and mobile plant: Production and maintenance planners, mobile plant supervisors and fleet coordinators responsible for supervising mobile plant operations, monitoring vehicles and equipment, and ensuring safe, reliable systems.

CPD and Recognition (Non-accredited)

This program provides industry-recognised Continuous Practising Development (CPD) for Queensland metalliferous mining roles (underground and surface). Participants receive a Certificate of Completion for each unit. Learning activities may contribute to formal CPD requirements for Queensland Board of Examiners (BOE) practising certificates when recognised, please confirm current recognition for your role and site.

This course is not nationally recognised training (AQF) and does not issue a Statement of Attainment.

No statutory licence/ticket or practising certificate is granted on completion.

Employers remain responsible for competency validation and authorisations under their Safety and Health Management System (SHMS).

Content aligns with Queensland metalliferous mining safety legislation and recognised standards (e.g. Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 (Qld) and Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Regulation 2017) but is not legal advice.

CPD hours are indicative. Accepted hours are determined by the BOE and/or employer.

This fixed four (4) year CPD pathway for Queensland metalliferous mining has been developed with input from operators, supervisors and technical specialists to ensure the learning is practical, relevant and immediately applicable on site. Delivered by Simtars, it refreshes critical capabilities for statutory roles and frontline leaders in underground and open-cut operations and doubles as high-quality refresher/induction content for site staff and contractors.

Completing this program can help you to:

• Maintain BOE CPD evidence (when recognised) with attendance records, Certificates of Completion and CPD log entries suitable for Queensland Board of Examiners audits.
• Embed consistent Queensland methods across risk management, regulatory compliance, mining systems and infrastructure, confined spaces, emergency readiness, ventilation, mobile plant supervision and operational leadership, aligned to your SHMS.
• Reduce non-compliance by spotting incident and monitoring trends, standardising work practices and closing corrective actions across crews and contractors.
• Strengthen supervisor capability (SSEs, Underground Mine Managers, Open-cut/Surface Supervisors, superintendents and frontline leaders) to run effective pre-starts/toolbox talks, escalate triggers and make timely, risk-informed decisions.
• Use operational data, ventilation monitoring, vehicle/equipment telemetry and production metrics, to verify control effectiveness and demonstrate outcomes.
• Improve emergency preparedness through refreshed roles, communications and coordination within the Incident Management structure (underground metalliferous context).
• Lift contractor alignment by translating recognised standards and SHMS requirements into clear, auditable expectations for vendors and service providers.
• Build leadership habits that drive safe production: prioritising work, supervising mobile plant operations and reinforcing critical controls in the field.

Online. Self-paced eLearning delivered via Simtars’ learning platform. Each module is approximately 6 hours of refresher/awareness content with interactive activities.

Per module (6 hours total, self-paced):

Annual load: 4 online modules/year – 24 hours/year across the fixed four (4) year pathway.

Recommendation: Allow 1–2 weeks per module to comfortably complete alongside rostered shifts and site commitments.

Evidence: Completion records and Certificate of Completion suitable for BOE CPD logs after each course. No formal assessments.

This CPD package is 100% online and self-paced, so you can complete each 6-hour module around shifts, FIFO swings and home commitments.

Assessment Methods: There are no formal assessments in this online CPD. You’ll complete a single self-paced eLearning module (6 hours) with light, ungraded knowledge checks to help you reflect on key points. Work through all sections at your own pace. Once you’ve finished the module, you’ve met the requirement.

Attendance Requirements: There is no workshop to attend. To complete the unit, simply finish the online module in full. Your progress is saved, so you can pause and resume around shifts and home commitments.

Credential Issued: This program is non-accredited and does not issue an AQF credential. When you finish each online course (6 hours), you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion (non-accredited) for that course. That’s 24 Certificates in total across the fixed four-year pathway (4 courses per year).

Certificates are suitable for CPD logs and may contribute to BOE practising certificate CPD when recognised. Please check the BOE’s current requirements for your role and site.

Certificates of Completion (non-accredited) are issued automatically once you finish each online module in full.

You’ll usually receive your certificate within 24 hours of completion by email, along with a downloadable record suitable for CPD logs and BOE audits.

Across the four-year pathway, this means up to 24 Certificates of Completion are issued (4 per year, one per module).
