CPD and Recognition (Non-accredited)

This program provides industry-recognised Continuous Practising Development (CPD) for Queensland metalliferous mining roles (underground and surface). Participants receive a Certificate of Completion for each unit. Learning activities may contribute to formal CPD requirements for Queensland Board of Examiners (BOE) practising certificates when recognised, please confirm current recognition for your role and site.

This course is not nationally recognised training (AQF) and does not issue a Statement of Attainment.

No statutory licence/ticket or practising certificate is granted on completion.

Employers remain responsible for competency validation and authorisations under their Safety and Health Management System (SHMS).

Content aligns with Queensland metalliferous mining safety legislation and recognised standards (e.g. Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 (Qld) and Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Regulation 2017) but is not legal advice.

How this course advances RSHQ’s Zero-Serious-Harm vision

Simtars Continuous Practising Development Program – Metalliferous Sector delivers a structured, risk-based CPD pathway for Queensland metalliferous statutory and leadership roles across underground and surface operations. The four (4) year sequence is organised into four streams: Risk and Compliance, Mining Systems and Infrastructure, Emergency/WHS Leadership, Ventilation and Operations. So participants practise the behaviours that prevent serious harm: identifying material risks, applying controls, verifying effectiveness and producing audit-ready evidence.

Built with RSHQ’s strategy in mind: practical, Queensland appropriate education that tackles real mine hazards, strengthens stakeholder capability and evidences impact across sites.

Risk-based CPD Planning
A pre-sequenced four (4) year CPD program mapped to Queensland metalliferous mining principal hazards and statutory role requirements (SSE, Deputy, ERZC, OCE).

Solve Site Problems
Task-based units that produce site-ready artefacts, control checks, readiness drills and monitoring logs. So you close actions faster and strengthen the SHMS across metalliferous operations.

Consistent Queensland Methods
Simtars-endorsed practices aligned with QLD metalliferous legislation and recognised standards, supporting SHMS implementation site-wide.

Equip Stakeholders
These modules upskill SSE’s, Deputies, ERZ Controllers, OCE’s, supervisors and H&S teams to make timely, risk-informed decisions.

Audit-ready Evidence
The fixed four (4) year pathway generates attendance records, Certificates of Completion and CPD logs suitable for BOE audits and internal/external assurance.

Data-enabled Decisions
Each stream integrates ventilation, gas/drainage, vehicle and operational data to verify control effectiveness and demonstrate safety outcomes.

💼 Industry Skills and Employability

This fixed four (4) year CPD pathway for Queensland metalliferous mining has been developed with input from operators, supervisors and technical specialists to ensure the learning is practical, relevant and immediately applicable on site. Delivered by Simtars, it refreshes critical capabilities for statutory roles and frontline leaders in underground and open-cut operations and doubles as high-quality refresher/induction content for site staff and contractors.

Completing this program can help you to:

  • Maintain BOE CPD evidence (when recognised) with attendance records, Certificates of Completion and CPD log entries suitable for Queensland Board of Examiners audits.
  • Embed consistent Queensland methods across risk management, regulatory compliance, mining systems and infrastructure, confined spaces, emergency readiness, ventilation, mobile plant supervision and operational leadership, aligned to your SHMS.
  • Reduce non-compliance by spotting incident and monitoring trends, standardising work practices and closing corrective actions across crews and contractors.
  • Strengthen supervisor capability (SSEs, Underground Mine Managers, Open-cut/Surface Supervisors, superintendents and frontline leaders) to run effective pre-starts/toolbox talks, escalate triggers and make timely, risk-informed decisions.
  • Use operational data, ventilation monitoring, vehicle/equipment telemetry and production metrics, to verify control effectiveness and demonstrate outcomes.
  • Improve emergency preparedness through refreshed roles, communications and coordination within the Incident Management structure (underground metalliferous context).
  • Lift contractor alignment by translating recognised standards and SHMS requirements into clear, auditable expectations for vendors and service providers.
  • Build leadership habits that drive safe production: prioritising work, supervising mobile plant operations and reinforcing critical controls in the field.
