Small Mines and Quarry SSE Online Safety Awareness Program

SSESSA
This course will assist in your preparation to take on the key role of Site Senior Executive at a Queensland surface mine or quarry (excluding gem and opal mines) of less than 5 workers. This training is non-accredited and is designed to meet the requirements of a training course required by the Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee (MSHAC).

The Simtars' SSE Online Safety Awareness Course includes 4 awareness topics:
  • Risk Assessment
  • Incident Investigation
  • Electrical Awareness
  • Safety and Health Management Systems.
These topics are outlined in the Queensland  Competencies recognised by the Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee and will enable SSEs appointed to small mines and quarries to obtain prescribed safety awareness competencies.

From 1 July 2018, the required mining competencies have been updated. Please ensure that you are aware of these prior to enrolling. Please view the Competencies and check your specific requirements prior to enrolling:

Senior Site Executive (SSE) for a mine or quarry that employs five (5) or less staff must hold evidence of successfully completing training for each of the four (4) topics within this course.

In addition, if drill and blast activities take place on site, evidence that the SSE has undertaken a recognised Safe Drilling and Blasting Course is also necessary. If required, the Safe Drilling and Blasting course is available as a separate enrolment.

Each of the topics in this training course has been developed by Queensland Mineral Mines and Quarries Inspectorate to meet the training course requirements, with small-scale surface mines and quarries in mind.
