SSE Online – Safe Drilling and Blasting

This course will assist in your preparation to take on the key role of Site Senior Executive (SSE) at a Queensland surface mine or quarry. This training is non-accredited and is designed to give you the skills and knowledge to take on the responsibilities required by the Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee (MSHAC).
 
The course consists of a number of topics related to the SSE responsibilities for the safe drilling and blasting activities conducted on a small mine or quarry. These topics include general obligations, risk management processes, blast management plan requirements, drill and blast hazards and controls, blasting and drilling techniques, explosives storage and reporting.

This course is designed  for Site senior Executive on a surface mine or quarry, other than an opal or gem mine, employing 5 or fewer persons. 
This is an online course which can be completed at any time over a period of 6 months.

From 1 July 2018, the required mining competencies have been updated. Please ensure that you are aware of these prior to enrolling. Please view the Competencies and check your specific requirements prior to enrolling:

From 1 July 2018, the Site Senior Executive (SSE) for a mine or quarry with more than twenty (20) persons must hold evidence of successfully completing a recognised Safe Drilling and Blasting course.

This course has been developed by Queensland Mineral Mines and Quarries Inspectorate to meet the competency requirements. It is designed to ensure that sufficient learning material and activities have been provided for the SSE to meet the competencies requirements as set by MSHAC. 

On successful completion of this course, the SSE of a mine or quarry will meet the MSHAC requirements for a recognised Safe Drilling and Blasting Course.

The subjects include:
  • general obligations
  • risk management processes
  • blast management plan requirements
  • drill and blast hazards and controls
  • blasting and drilling techniques, explosives storage and reporting.

Questionnaire to assess the Learning
You will be required to undertake online questioning. If the question has not been answered correctly, the learner will be automatically taken back to review the relevant content.

Upon successful completion of the questionnaire, Simtars (RTO 45647) will issue and email a non-accredited Statement of Completion from Simtars (RTO 45647) to you. This can be printed for proof of completion.
