  • Organisations (training providers, mining companies, sole traders) seeking recognition as an Approved Provider to deliver the Learning from Disasters program under a Training and Assessment Services Deed.
  • Individual trainers with the required qualifications and industry experience who wish to become Approved Trainers to facilitate the one-day Learning from Disasters Workshop Component.
  • Safety leaders and professionals committed to promoting cultural change, risk awareness and improved safety outcomes across Queensland’s mining sector.

Important Note: This is not a training course. It is the screening and application process for organisations and trainers seeking approval.

If your application is successful, you will be invited to complete the Learning from Disasters Train-the-Trainer (LFD TTT) Course, which is required before you can deliver the program.

Approval as an Approved Provider or Approved Trainer through this process does not contribute CPD points. Only attendance at the one-day Learning from Disasters course may be considered for professional development points at the discretion of the Queensland Board of Examiners (BOE).

Regulatory Note

The Learning from Disasters one-day course may contribute to professional development points for Queensland Board of Examiners (BOE) statutory tickets, subject to the BOE’s consideration and discretion.

However, the Approved Provider / Approved Trainer application process is not a training course and does not itself contribute to BOE professional development points.

The Approved Provider / Approved Trainer application process is not a nationally recognised course and does not result in the issuance of a Statement of Attainment or accredited qualification.

  • Application and Assessment Process: From submission and screening to final approval and entry into the LFD Train-the-Trainer course.
  • Ongoing Responsibilities: Reporting, quality assurance and continuous professional development to retain Approved Provider / Trainer status.

This is an online application process.

If your application is approved, you will be invited to complete the Learning from Disasters Train-the-Trainer (LFD TTT) package, which is a blended product consisting of:

  • Online component: eLearning modules and pre-work.
  • Face-to-face workshop: Mandatory attendance for capability assessment and approval finalisation.

⏱️ Learning Sequence & Time Commitment

The application and approval process follows a structured sequence:

  • Online Application: Submit your application form with required documentation and payment of the $350 non-refundable application fee.
  • Screening and Assessment: Simtars reviews your submission against eligibility, compliance and governance requirements.
  • If Approved – LFD Train-the-Trainer Package:
    • Pre-reading: Approximately 5 hours – provided prior to commencing online modules.
    • Online learning: Approximately 4–5 hours self-paced (to be completed before the workshop).
    • Face-to-face workshop: 1 day of practical training, facilitation assessment and approval finalisation.

Recommendation: Allow at least 2–3 weeks between receiving your materials and attending the face-to-face workshop to ensure all online components are completed and you are fully prepared.

⚠️ Important: The LFD Train-the-Trainer workshops are held three times per year. If your application is successful, you will be allocated a place in one of these scheduled sessions.

The Approved Provider / Approved Trainer application process can be commenced online at any time.

If your application is successful, you will be enrolled into the Learning from Disasters Train-the-Trainer (LFD TTT) package, which is scheduled three times per year. Each intake includes:

  • Pre-reading and online modules to be completed before the workshop.
  • A one-day face-to-face workshop at the Simtars Training Centre, Redbank QLD.
  • Access to experienced Simtars trainers for guidance throughout both the online and practical components.
 
πŸ“‚ Enrolment Requirements

To be eligible for enrolment into the LFD TTT package, you must:

  • Successfully complete the Approved Provider / Approved Trainer application and be formally approved.
  • Complete all pre-reading and online modules before attending the face-to-face workshop.
  • Attend the one-day face-to-face workshop in full (participation is mandatory for final approval).

⚠️ Applicants who do not complete the online requirements in advance will be unable to participate in the face-to-face component.

 
βœ… Entry Requirements And Suitability

For Approved Providers (organisations or sole traders):

  • Public Liability Insurance (min $10 million under the Deed).
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance (min $5 million under the Deed).
  • Workers Compensation Insurance (Queensland requirements).
  • Valid certificates of currency for all insurances.
  • Compliance with the Queensland Government’s Ethical Supplier Threshold.
  • Disclosure of any conflicts of interest.
  • Legal entity details (ABN/ACN, registration, contacts).
  • Nomination of one or more trainers who meet the Approved Trainer criteria.

For Approved Trainers (individual facilitators):

  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or higher).
  • Industry credibility via either:
    • a current practising certificate/certificate of competence for a statutory mining function, or
    • minimum 2 years’ recent experience delivering training in the mining sector (e.g., safety leadership, risk management, legislative compliance).
  • Up-to-date resume showing recency of practice and facilitation experience.
  • Commitment to signing the Deed Poll and meeting compliance requirements.
  • Successful completion of the LFD Train-the-Trainer package.

All applicants need reliable access to a computer or device with internet to complete the application, upload documentation and undertake the online components of the LFD TTT package.

The assessment process for the Approved Provider / Approved Trainer application confirms suitability and capability:

  • Application Screening: Review of submitted documentation (application form, insurances, qualifications, resumes, declarations).
  • Compliance Check: Verification of governance, insurance and eligibility requirements.
  • Practical Assessment (Approved Trainers only): During the face-to-face Train-the-Trainer workshop, applicants will be observed delivering components of the Learning from Disasters program to demonstrate facilitation skills, industry knowledge and program integrity.

⚠️ Attendance Requirements: All required online modules and pre-reading must be completed before the workshop. Applicants who do not complete these requirements cannot participate or progress to final approval.

 
πŸŽ“ Credential Issued

This is a non-accredited application process. On successful completion:

  • Approved Providers receive a formal letter of approval and enter into a Training and Assessment Services Deed with RSHQ.
  • Approved Trainers receive confirmation of their approval status and are listed under their Approved Provider, following completion of the LFD Train-the-Trainer workshop and signing of the Deed Poll.
  • In some cases, applicants may be required to sign a Deed or Deed Poll as part of their approval obligations.

⚠️ No AQF Statement of Attainment is issued as part of this process.

 
⏱️ Issuance Timeframe

Approval outcomes (LFD Training and Assessment Services Deed or Approved Trainer confirmation) are normally issued within 30 calendar days of successfully completing the face-to-face LFD TTT training and assessments, subject to:

  • satisfactory assessment results, and
  • finalisation of all required documentation and fees.

  • All submitted information, resumes and documentation must be true, accurate and your own work.
  • Misrepresentation of qualifications, insurances or industry experience may result in rejection or cancellation of approval.
  • Use of AI tools is only permitted where explicitly allowed and must be acknowledged transparently.
  • Plagiarism, false declarations or unauthorised AI use may result in reassessment, rejection or withdrawal of approval.

  • Application Fee: $350 GST (non-refundable) – payable at submission. Covers administrative processing, compliance checks and screening.
  • Train-the-Trainer Fee: $1,500 GST – payable once approved and invited to enrol in the LFD TTT package.
  • Approval period: initially 12 months; subject to satisfactory performance, may be extended a further 24 months (renewal assessed annually; renewal fees apply).
  • Payment options: Visa/Mastercard (no AmEx), EFT, Purchase Order.

Note: The $350 GST application fee is non-refundable as it accommodates the administrative processing time required to assess and screen each application.

Applicants may withdraw from the process at any time. However:

  • The $350 GST application fee is non-refundable (covers administrative processing, compliance checks and screening).
  • Fees for the LFD TTT package ($1,500 GST) are subject to the Simtars Fees & Refunds Policy, which outlines limited refund conditions where applicable.
