This course was developed to provide training for persons carrying out respirable dust monitoring for Queensland coal, mineral mines and quarries. This course is also applicable to those required to measure, collect, interpret, evaluate and report on workplace information and data in relation to respirable dust exposures in construction, manufacturing and processing industries.
It involves a 2-day face to face workshop where students will learn through through theory and practical simulations and consists of the following nationally accredited unit of competency:
• BSBWHS419 – Contribute to implementing WHS monitoring processes
You will also be trained in the following topics:
• sampling to AS 2985—2009 Australian standard: workplace atmospheres—method for
sampling and gravimetric determination of respirable dust
• appropriate data to be collected during sampling, including observations
• use and applications of real-time monitors
• use and application of an anemometer

Training Face-to-face workshops You will participate in two (2) days of face-to-face training and assessment with the trainer. The training methods are based on feedback from the industry, with certain topics re-enforced throughout the training, so as to ensure that dust samples are taken consistently, and reported consistently, across the industry |
Assessment To obtain the unit of competency, you will be required to successfully complete written assessments and practical assessments. You can request an extension of time to submit assessments, see our Learner Handbook for more information. You will receive a Statement of Attainment for BSBWHS419 Contribute to implementing WHS monitoring processes from Simtars (RTO 45647) and a Statement of Completion for the additional topics covered. Course Readings and Questions You will be provided with pre-course readings and questions prior to the commencement of your face-to-face training. There are formative questions for you to answer, based on the information provided in the pre-course readings. This formative questioning will reinforce the information provided in the readings. Note that this formative questioning does not count towards the assessment for the unit of competency. It is estimated that these pre-course readings and questions will take you up to 30 hours to complete. Note: These activities must be completed before you come to your face-to-face training. The trainer will use the outcomes of the activities during the delivery of face-to-face training. |
